History and Heritage Preservation
Oral History Interviews
SFHA Oral histories document traditions that were learned through storytelling, observation, imitation, and word of mouth and are still practiced today in African American homes, churches, businesses, holiday celebrations, and recreational activities.
Heritage tours make African American history come alive with reenactments based on historic documents. Our guided tours take you on a journey of discovery of African American heritage in the Sandhills from the period of slavery through the Civil Rights movement.
Our Food Heritage
The African Heritage Diet is a way of eating based on the healthy food traditions of people with African roots. This healthy way of eating is powerfully nutritious and delicious, and naturally meets the guidelines that health professionals promote today.
Our Medicine Heritage
Healing from the Land (SFHA Publication) is our attempt to document and preserve the history of the special connections between African American families of the Sandhills and their use of the land for medicinal purposes.
